Leading questionably straight actor, Leonardo DiCaprio continues his love affair ambassadorship with Tag Heuer and co collaborates in the design of the Leonardo DiCaprio Edition Aquaracer.What an original name for a watch! Yeah right. Anyway, this watch is cheap and is for two great causes.
Since Leo is a giant activist for the environment, he has totally persuaded Tag Heuer to implement new environmental measures — recycling, reduced water and fuel consumption, lower-impact building and heating alternatives — that have dramatically reduced the brand’s carbon footprint.
The cool blue dial of the watch is adorned with either a NRDC or a Green Cross logo, which are two global organizations that Leo supports. Royalties generated from its sales go directly to the two environmental organizations, as part of a multi-million dollar initiative spearheaded by Leonardo DiCaprio. Because of his commitment to global water issues and protecting the worlds oceans by securing access to clean drinking water, the watch has a theme of a clean blue color which is even incorporated on the crown.
The magnifying bubble over the date at the 9’oclock position is a refreshing change from the normal 3’oclock position which is clearly a blatant Rolex rip off, but hey by putting it on the opposite side it’s not as desperate or infringing. Even though I think blue on watches looks like complete a$$, it works on this watch because of the theme and the cause, from the dial, rubber strap, rotating bezel and crown. The price is right at $1800 and is for a great cause, and the watch actually has good mechanics with the Tag Heuer calibre 5 automatic movement.
