Finally, Bretiling makes a watch for 2010 worth mentioning

In Uncategorized on February 9, 2010 at 2:20 am

Breitling has made some major mistakes in the last couple of years, almost devastating really. Until now, for this years Basel Fair they are finally kind of getting their shit together. They will launch the new novelty of the Black Steel Super Avenger with bracelet and rubber strap for this years, Basel Fair 2010. Keeping it real never hurt anyone, except for those that can’t handle the truth! This Breitling is actually a watch I would wear, only if I was given it for free. I know, Shocking right? Well, it’s simple, good looking and happens to be the first watch ever made, where you can use and operate the chronograph functions of this watch underwater to 3,300 ft.
This is a killer tool to have if you are a diver or just underwater happy. Sadly, most divers watches with chronograph functions can’t be utilized underwater due to the fact that it compromises the water resistance. Because of this Magnetic Patented device system cleverly hidden in the case, you can time all sorts of shit underwater without making any mechanical contact. The only thing dirty about this watch is that is Super Quartz, which is Super Gay, but hey the fact that I like it and I am writing about it means, it may be worth getting if you dare. The watch is limited to 2000 pieces for the world and is a little overpriced at five grand on bracelet or rubber strap variation, but I guess to develop something so useful can be expensive. Here are the technical details.

Its SuperQuartz movement guarantees a precision ten times greater than ordinary quartz movements; it measures times to 1/10 of a second and indicates intermediary times.

The case measures 44.5mm.

Hollywood

JLC Sighting!

Being an international man of mystery has been very shagadelic for me. Hello Vicka! I get to eat and chill and you know? in the coolest places around the world. I was recently at one of my favorite spots in Hollywood, The Velvet Margarita. You may think this is a gentleman’s club by the name, but actually it’s one of the hippest and coolest Latin themed lounges around. I was there for a dear friends birthday Michael Mosbach and it was really chill and private, and it was a fucking blast. In the back patio of Velvet’s is this really cool rock and roll feeling outdoor space that makes you feel that your in the spirit of 1977 in NYC, minus the drugs and filth. The sea of people that were invited to this private gathering were from all walks of life. You had modeling agents, Hollywood publicists, models, Rock Stars, and behind the scenes industry movers.

In my personal experience, Rock Stars have been quite difficult to socialize with. But I must say in this particular instance, I was blown away, when I was introduced to Neil Peart of the Legendary band RUSH, who is arguably one of the best drummers of our time. It was an honor to meet someone you grew up listening to, and then to top it all off, to be able to have a normal conversation and especially for me to talk watches with him was purely amazing. Neil was very low key, and very real, and one could never tell or know by looking or talking to him that he happens to be one of the greatest living rock Legends of all time.

Neil was wearing the very cool JLC AMVOX Le Mans edition, which I noticed immediately. When I asked him what watch he wears? and as he pulled up his sleeve, we both said, “AMVOX” at the same time. He then proceeded to tell me that he has some Patek’s and even a JLC Reverso. Neil has great taste and I was truly honored and thrilled to be around someone so well versed and respected. Not since my good friend Rock Legend and famed guitarist of the Cars Elliot Easton, have I met such an honorable and nice musician who is the best at what he does without attitude.

The Breitling Colt Get’s Strapped For Basel 2010!

WHO CARES!

Just in case you give a shit, Breitling has launched a special integrated strap for their 2009 series Colt. I am glad to say I wont be running out anytime soon to buy the watch, because it makes it look like a ladies Tag Heuer Alter Ego, which is just downright retarded! This makes the watch look very QVC Invictaesque. This watch is also available on a stainless steel professional bracelet. The watch is the Breitling Colt GMT in Stainless Steel, and this is supposed to be a Basel Novelty? HAHAHAHAH! Nice Try, but not quite. This is no novelty, this is a tragedy. The Breitling Colt has always been a great entry level price point watch and great value in the past because of what your get for your money, but now it’s clear that they are cheapening their image just for the sake of producing something for this years Basel Fair 2010. The thing is that most of their entry level watches are not $2000 anymore and no one wants to spend three or more grand for a watch on a rubber strap, unless it’s a Panerai or something that holds its value.

The case, in stainless steel, measures 41.3mm. The crystal is an AR-coated sapphire and it is water resistant to 500 meters.

Movement is the automatic Breitling caliber 32 with 21 jewels and GMT complication. It is COSC-certified as a chronometer.

Dials can be had in Volcano black, Air Force blue, Tungsten grey and Stratus silver.
